South Carlsbad State Beach is approximately a 35 minute drive north of San Diego,
minutes from the Palomar Airport Road exit off Interstate 5,
and just north of Encinitas and south of Oceanside.
From Interstate 5:
Take INTERSTATE 5, exit PALOMAR AIRPORT ROAD.
Go WEST, stay in f ar left lane thru traffic lights to CARLSBAD BLVD–SOUTH / COAST HIGHWAY
Bear RIGHT onto ramp CARLSBAD BLVD–SOUTH / COAST HIGHWAY
Merge onto CARLSBAD BLVD–SOUTH / COAST HIGHWAY (free parking lot is .6 miles)
You will see Lifeguard Tower 28 and then a parking lot entrance to the right.
Park in this FREE parking lot that has 70 parking spaces and 3 handicap spaces, the closer to the top of the lot you can find a space, the less walking. You will be at the North end of the campground.
There is a sign that says Entry: 30 yards, that will lead you into the campground.
Our campsite is surrounded by bamboo fencing and it is adjacent to the walk thru gate at the very North end of South Carlsbad State Beach Campgrounds.
Please meet SDSA inside the campground at our campsite.

What you need to bring for your surfing lesson: towel, swimsuit, quarters for a hot shower (cold showers are free!) and a dry change of clothes.
Airport Shuttle Information:
Reservations are not necessary. Follow the shuttle signs which are marked clearly at the airport. There are many shuttle service companies in which to choose and prices will vary.
Coaster Train Information:
The Coaster Train runs between Oceanside and downtown San Diego every day except Sunday. Exit at the Carlsbad Poinsettia Station to reach South Carlsbad State Beach and the SDSA Camp. For more detailed information, check out the MTS web site: sdcommute.com.
Walking Directions from the Carlsbad Poinsettia Coaster Train Station:
Head north from the platform towards the path leading between the neighborhoods of mobile homes to the south and custom two-story homes to the north. Turn right and proceed north towards the three-story SeaPointe Resort. Go left and towards the ocean/Coast Highway for one block on Island Way (our closest cross street). Cross at the traffic light, you will see SDSA Surf Camp to the right in the campgrounds AKA South Carlsbad State Beach. Check out this PDF for an image of the walking route.
